Gulf
Coast MDA Initiative/Northern Edge 2005 was a regional/national
operational Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) demonstration. Participants
included the US Coast Guard, the US Naval Reserve, National Guard Civil Support
Teams, US Northern Command, Commander Third Fleet, and state and local First
Responders. GC-MDA05 was conducted in August 2005.

Asymmetric
Warfare Initiative 2005 (South)/Exercise Bay Shield-San Diego was a
multi-agency Federal, State, and local exercise to test the San Diego Area
Maritime Security Plan (AMSP) and verify the operations of the San Diego Sector
Control Center-Joint (SCC-J). The exercise was set in a maritime terrorism
scenario at and around the Port of San Diego and was conducted in September
2005.

Unified Independence 2005 was conducted by the California National
Guard's 9th Civil Support Team to exercise multi-agency search and rescue,
threat characterization, decontamination, and law enforcement operations in a
contaminated environment. In UI-05, Federal, military, State of California, and
local agencies responded to a simulated chemical release by terrorists at Port
Hueneme, California. UI-05 took place in April 2005. |

Asymmetric
Warfare Initiative 2005 (North) was a multi-agency, multi-jurisdiction
exercise that engaged maritime port security and supporting agencies from
Washington State to Alaska, including British Columbia. Predominantly a command
post exercise, AWI-05(N) incorporated live exercise play to stimulate events
and meet participant objectives. AWI-05(N) was conducted in November 2005. |
