| Roguex III |
 |
| The CAW conducted ROGUEX III on 26-29 April 2004. The exercise, co-sponsored by Commander Third Fleet and Commander US Coast Guard Pacific Area, included USS JARRETT, USCGC ALERT, and two opposing force ships, the MV ATLS and MV Independence. The exercise scenario involved the threat of terrorists smuggling contraband into West Coast ports using cargo ships and research vessels.

| |
| COMPACAREA designated JARRETT as the on-scene-commander and assigned ALERT in support. This type of supporting/supported relationship, not previously tested by the Coast Guard for Maritime Homeland Defense missions, proved to be extremely effective. During the live exercise, the newly formed USCG Security Response Team (SRT) conducted a vertical insertion aboard MV ATLS in a non-compliant environment.
